What DOES 'Keumgang' Mean?

About Our School

Keumgang Taekwondo/Hapkido Institute (also known as KTI) is dedicated to providing our students the best possible Martial Arts training available anywhere in the world. Unlike many Martial Arts schools we also try to make it fun and exciting for everyone in the family. The primary goal of our entire staff is to assist you in being not only the best Martial Artist you can be but also the best person you can be.

Our programs are carefully structured to take the student far beyond the normal blocking, punching, kicking and playing around with a few traditional Martial Arts weapons. The self defense portions of our training start with useful basics that are purposely designed to build one upon another to ensure the student is not just wasting time learning worthless garbage that doesn’t work in the real world. KTI teaches fully effective self-defense skills from day one and provides you with a comprehensive personal development program that will benefit you in all other aspects of your life. We truly want to help our students elevate the quality of their lives in every way possible.

You can be assured that at KTI we honor Martial Arts traditions that go back thousands of years. We also are a dynamic school and are constantly seeking new and innovative ways to enthuse, excite and motivate our students.

KTI hosts a number of activities and events that involve not only our students but also their families and the community at large. We have many parties for major holidays, students birthdays, rank promotions and Martial Arts demonstrations. We also host special Martial Arts seminars and participate in a few select Martial Arts tournaments. Taekwondo is an official sport in the Olympic Games and that style of competition is taught right here at KTI for those who choose to specialize only in tournament competition.. Over the years KTI students trained by Grand Master Delavan have competed and won at State, Regional and National level sanctioned Olympic style tournaments - including the National Championships and Jr. Olympic National Championships. Our Master Instructor, Grandmaster John Delavan, is certified not only as a Master Instructor but is also certified as an International Referee which qualifies him to officiate at sanctioned national and international events up to and including the Olympic Games. For many years he traveled all over the United States and to foreign countries officiating at these National and World Class events.

We pledge to make each student’s journey into the wonderful world of the Martial Arts as fun, exciting and as educational as possible. We believe that being a Martial Artist is not just learning to kick and punch, it is about becoming the best person you can be in every way, inside the Dojang and outside in the world we all live in.
